Relationship Questions & Answers
(Answers are based on the Bible & my relationship with Jesus Christ)

What is a Relationship?
It's a connection between two people with the purpose of developing more than just an association.  Depending on the desire, you may spend quality time together, sharing various aspects of your personal life. It's the beginning stage of the relationship process which can lead to more meaningful connections.

What is a Marriage Relationship?
Marriage is a union between a man and a woman with the specific purpose of developing a lifelong connection. It's a personal commitment to abide by your collective promise to love, honor, and respect each other while building a strong meaningful relationship.  There are 4 key unions and each one is addressed in My Journey To Rediscover Relationships:
1. Spiritual Union          2. Physical Union          3. Mental Union          4. Financial Union

How do I choose the Right Person to Marry?
First and foremost, prayer is the key to finding the right person to spend the rest of your life with. Who knows people better than we do? Jesus!  Who knows us better than we do? Jesus! Who knows what will make us happy and content with a spouse? Jesus! He must be the central part of our decisions and a major part of our marriage.  He will help us to make a house a home.

What are Key Traits that I Should Look for in a Spouse?
This is a key question that must be considered & answered before marrying any person. Getting to know the person you want to marry is critical to developing a meaningful lasting connection.  This list is not all-inclusive. You must pay close attention to the way the person conducts his/her life, business dealings, finances, perspective, commitment to doing the right thing, etc.
1. Does this person have a Vertical Connection with Jesus Christ? (critical)
2. Is this person involved in a local church?
3. How does this person treat you?

4. How does this person treat his or her parents?
5. How does this person manage his or her finances?
6. What kind of an attitude does he or she display?
7. Does this person openly complain, criticize, judge, condemn, or display anger?
8. What is this person's outlook on life?
9. Does this person make commitments & keep them?
10. Does this person respect you, your insight, & your opinions?
11. Does this person make excuses?
12. Does this person keep appointments?
13. Does this person have good work ethics?
14. Is he or she on time for dates, appointments, work?

How can I develop a Meaningful Marriage Relationship?
Developing a meaningful marriage connection will take much time, effort, patience, and resolve. It will not happen overnight but may take years to mature based on individual desires & commitments. The common expression that; "Marriage is a 50/50 responsibility" is a farse. Marriage requires a 100% commitment from both individuals. However, the promise to honor one's vows must be fulfilled regardless of whether the other spouse honors his or her vows. That statement gave me much displeasure until the Lord helped me to understand that I made the promise, and He expects me to fulfill it regardless of whether Rene fulfills her promise. Therefore, be very careful of statements or vows you make concerning anything especially your marriage, because Jesus will hold you & I accountable to fulfill them.

What are some key responsibilities and/or suggestions for a spouse?
1. Take responsibility for your actions & admit when you're wrong!
2. Always be willing to forgive (none of us are perfect).
3. Don't get defensive when trying to resolve issues & challenges.  Your spouse's issues now belong to you too.  If left unresolved, they can easily disrupt & destroy your connection.
4. Learn how to communicate effectively, it can protect & save your marriage.
5. Spend quality time with your spouse, it's the best investment you can make.
6. Love is a decision you make, not just an emotion you display when you feel like it.
7. YOUR MARRIAGE IS NOT ABOUT YOU, IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU PROMISED (your vows)!

How can I rebuild my life after divorce?
Divorce can be a devastating experience producing pain, sorrow, and bitterness. It's not pleasant, nor is it supposed to be. The Bible states in Malachi 2:16: "God hates divorce" because of the chaos it can produce and the negative effects it can have on families Divorce destroys families and creates physical & mental stress in kids. It creates confusion in the hearts & minds of children as they attempt to make some sense of why it happened and how it will impact their lives. However, divorce happens & all parties involved must deal with the aftereffects to survive. In (Relationships: The Key To Success) Chapter 9 - The Single Parent, I address rebuilding after divorce.

Why are relationships so important?
In my new book, My Journey To Rediscover Relationships, I make this statement with confidence in what I sensed Jesus impressed upon my heart & mind. "Life is all About Relationships, & Relationships are all About Life." Why do I say that? Because everything we do or accomplish in life will have a relationship attached to it.  From childhood through adulthood, our very existence requires that we be connected to our Creator & other people.  It's the only way we will learn, grow, mature, and enjoy our journey through life. If you intend to enjoy life, meaningful connections will play a major part.
